Fiji Cruises

One of the largest of the Pacific nations, Fiji has a population estimated just under 900,000 according to the latest government statistics and as seems to be common with all of the Pacific countries, Fiji also contains a vast number of different islands with only a fraction of them actually used and inhabited.

Fiji was shaken to its very core in 2006 when a brutal and violent power struggle ensued as a result of an abortive military coup instigated by dissatisfied members of the military elite who were disenfranchised by the way in which the government at the time was conducting its business.  Callously written off as the “gentlemen’s scuffle” in the world’s press due to the low fatality count as well as how swiftly the prime minister folded under the pressure exerted, Fiji Cruises which were and still are an integral part of the economy of the country took a nosedive as a result.

With foreign confidence significantly eroded by the perceived threat to its citizens, many embassies across the world urged its nationals to cancel Fiji Cruises and to be wary about booking them in the near future. Even though the actual degree of threat to tourists was in practise, non-existent to minimal, the knee jerk reaction by the world’s government was the kiss of death to the previously prosperous nature of the Fiji Cruises that had provided a significant amount of revenue for the nation as a whole.

Although the political dilemma has been stabilised somewhat, there is still lingering doubt in some peoples minds.
